Fixed-age future-fan assay · q8→q32

By q8, the future is already broad.

At q8, the first scheduled checkpoint after two early information-directed pulses, four score-matched states still differ little in their visible geometry, yet the same later challenges separate their q900 futures about 4.3 times more strongly. From q8 to q32, visible geometry carries progressively more of the earlier route while the range of later formation times contracts.

What was fixed, and whenThe 39-organism cohort, information histories, matching rule, checkpoints, and outcomes were fixed before these histories or outcomes were run; the later challenge fan was then frozen before release, event, or causal-future execution. This is a prospective same-organism mechanistic assay, while the comparison across ages is descriptive rather than an independent population replication.

Developmental age here means passages since the seeded state.

The notation q8 therefore names a scheduled observation checkpoint, not a life stage inferred from appearance. For every organism we applied two information-directed pulses at passages +1 and +5, stopped at one of four predeclared ages, matched four routes on their ending score, and then asked how the resulting states responded to the same continuation and eight fixed challenges.

The fixed-age future-fan assay A seeded Flow Lenia field receives two early information-directed pulses, is observed at q8, q16, q24, or q32, and branches into four score-matched histories. Each resulting state then receives the same continuation and eight challenges before measurement at q900. seeded fieldsame genotypesame organism +1+5two pulses q8earliestscheduledcheckpointalso q16/24/32 high · holdhigh · looplow · holdlow · loop same c04and the sameeight-challengepanelq900 release statescore-matched historiescausal futures

The four routes crossed an earlier high or low score region and then either held that direction or looped back before release; at each age, those routes define the matched present states whose later action worlds are compared.

02 · one record

Four q8 histories meet the same c04 challenge.

The matrix below uses s01, the first record in the frozen cohort, rather than a visually dramatic or outcome-selected example. Every q8 panel uses the same central 48×48 crop, with the complete 128×128 simulation field retained in the inset, and every lower panel shows the corresponding q900 future under c04; the images make the assay legible, while the claim itself rests on all 39 organisms and all nine later futures.

Thin lines are the 39 analyzed organisms; thick lines are cohort means; whiskers are the stored 95% bootstrap intervals for each checkpoint. These connected lines describe the same cohort across four scheduled ages, not four independent samples.

At the cohort level, q8 later-future separation was 104.4% of the q32 value, and the q8 point estimate was slightly higher; descriptively, 31 of 39 organisms followed that direction. Visible release separation moved the other way in 39 of 39 organisms, rising from 0.088 at q8 to 0.124 at q32, while the later formation-time range fell from 9.9 to 4.8 passages, with q8 above q32 in 30 organisms and equal in 3. These organism counts are descriptive views of the bound rows, not additional predeclared tests.

04 · reading

The early state carries route-dependent possibilities before those routes are obvious in its shape.

The q8 result does not show that a mature or stable body is already present, nor does it make q8 a universal beginning of plasticity. It shows something narrower and more useful: by the earliest checkpoint this assay measured, an organism’s recent informational route already changes how a common panel of later interventions unfolds, even though the corresponding release states are much closer in visible geometry.

What the assay supports

The later action world is already broad at q8, visible separation increases through q32, and leverage over the timing of the later formation event declines over the same interval; taken together, the curves describe a transition from route-dependent possibility toward more visibly committed form.

What it leaves open

The same source organisms and their untouched event times came from the earlier mechanistic series, this study did not use an independent population, and no spatially disordered control was included here, so the result alone cannot tell whether the q8 effect belongs to organized early structure or to generic sensitivity.

The spatial-scale control was run next. We rearranged the same q8 cells while preserving genotype, channel masses, composition, and surrounding world; disorganization delayed visible formation, reduced local action coherence, and broadened distant divergence, which changed the interpretation from “organization creates more futures” to a more precise one: early organization canalizes an already broad repertoire.
